Kotak Securities Brokerage Charges:

When I see their brokerage structure, i feel it’s is one of the most expensive one compared to other full service brokers. Not only commission, thier AMC and account opening charges are also on higher side.

Coming to brokerage charges, they have two types of brokerage plans

  • Dynamic Brokerage Plan
  • Advance Brokerage Plan

Dynamic Brokerage Plan:

In this type of plan, the brokerage slab applied to the customer keeps changing according to the monthly traded volume. Higher the traded volume, lower will be the brokerage percentage.

Delivery Trading
Monthly Volume Brokerage charges
Less than 1 Lakh 0.59%
1-5 Lakhs 0.55%
5-10 lakhs 0.45%
10-20 lakhs 0.36%
20-60 Lakhs 0.27%
60 Lakhs – 2 crores 0.23%
Greater Than 2 crores 0.18%

As you can see, you can get delivery brokerage as low as 0.18%

Intraday Trading
Monthly Volume Brokerage charges
Less than 25 Lakh 0.06%
25 Lakhs – 2 Crores 0.05%
2 Crores – 5 Crores 0.04%
More than 5 Crores 0.03%

Advance Brokerage Plan:

In this plan, you pay advance brokerage amount of your choice mentioned below and avail the lower brokerage slabs. It has the validity of 12 months and if not used within that period, it will lapse. So in a way you are committing to trade that volume in 12 months.

If you are not sure, i advice you to don’t opt for this plan as anything can happen in 12 months and mind you, the amount once paid is non refundable.

Plan Advance Fee Delivery Brokerage Intraday Brokerage
A 5000 0.39% 0.040%
B 10000 0.29% 0.035%
C 50000 0.19% 0.030%
D 200000 0.12% 0.015%

Kotak Securities Review – Conclusion:

Being a brokerage firm with backing from parent bank which has very good reputation in India, one can easlily open a demat account with them without any hesitation.

But only thing I am concerned with them is the brokerage, their commission is higher than icicidirect which considered as one of the most expensive broker.

So advice you, if you interested in opening the account with them, please negotiate hard with their sales rep and you should be able to get lower brokerage slab.
